The minister said several important decisions are being taken to strengthen the education department by the state government and merger as well as reorganisation of schools is also being considered if needed.

He reiterated that a parametre of merging schools, if enrolment is less than 25 from Class 6 to 12 has been kept, and around 100 schools with zero enrolment will be denotified.

He informed that the state government has regularised 778 part time water carriers working in the Education Department who had completed 11 years (combined part time water carrier and daily wagers) services as on March 31, 2025 against vacant posts of Class 4.

In a statement issued here, he said that the state government fulfilled the long pending demands of the employees.

He further said that the government is also filling up the vacant posts and has sanctioned 15000 posts of teachers, including 3900 posts in the primary education department and an additional 3100 posts would soon be filled through Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog.

During the previous BJP government the recruitment process in the education sector had come to halt, but the present government is actively working to strengthen the education sector by filling vacant posts, Thakur said. The minister said that to strengthen the pre-primary education, 6200 nursery teachers were being appointed.

He said that services of more than 200 acting principals working in the educational institutions across the state have been regularised whereas in the higher education department 483 assistant professors had been recruited.

During the last two and a half years, the present government has appointed 700 lecturers in schools, while only 511 lecturers were appointed during the entire five years of tenure of the previous BJP government, he added.

According to the ‘Annual Status of Education Report’ released in January, 2025, the reading skills of government schools’ students in Himachal Pradesh were among the best in the country.

The court also suggested the appointment of dedicated paper setters to ensure quality control.

Additionally, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Ministry of Education, seeking a response on measures to streamline the CLAT examination process.

  • Madras HC Stays NEET-UG 2025 Result Over Power Outage Claims At Chennai Centre

The Madras High Court has granted an interim stay restraining authorities from releasing NEET-UG-2025 results after hearing the plea of several students who were affected due to power cut at an examination centre in Chennai. Justice V Lakshminarayanan, hearing the plea, granted interim stay on Friday and adjourned the matter to June 2 for further hearing.

The crux of the submission of the students was that due to storm and heavy rainfall, there had been a power outage at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF-Avadi, Chennai, which was their examination centre, from approximately 3pm to 4.15pm on the date of exam, i.e. May 4, 2025.

According to an affidavit of 13 students, there were no backup facilities such as generators or inverters.

“We were forced to write the examination under poor lighting conditions, and rainwater entered the examination hall, causing further disruption as we were asked to move from the assigned seats,” they submitted.

Despite the disruption, the examination authorities did not provide any extra time to the affected students. On account the same, the petitioners were not able to complete the examination fully.

The petitioners contended that they were subjected to grossly unequal examination conditions compared to candidates at other centres, violating Article 14 of the Constitution. Also, rights under Article 21 (Protection of life, liberty) had also been infringed.

“A national-level competitive exam like NEET must ensure a level playing field, which was denied to the petitioners.” Despite timely representation on May 4 itself, and follow-up efforts, the respondent authorities have not acknowledged or addressed the genuine grievances of the petitioners. The respondents include the union government, National Medical Commission and the National Testing Agency that conducts NEET.
